Fish head noodles... stop me if you've heard this one before!

OK, it's starting to seem like this is all I ever eat for weekend breakfasts but I assure you, this is not the case! I wanted to share this, simply for like-minded folks who can't be arsed fighting with the weekend morning stampede at Woo Pin or Goon Wah in the Old Klang Road area.
Had driven by and seen this banner hanging off this kopitiam along Old Klang Road, not far away across the road from 3rd Mile Square several times.

Now I don't know Cheras too well (where apparently another Woo Pin outlet presides) but I am willing to give any fish head noodles a try.

First, the essentials...

My order of non-milk, fish meat & fish paste came in a huge steaming bowl, upping the temperature in the already sauna-like atmosphere inside the shop (tip: grab one of the few tables outside if you don't want to sweat buckets)

Without milk, the Chinese wine base in the soup really shone through, nicely finished off with the piquancy of the tomatoes and preserved vegetables. The late additions of freshly fried fish meat, which stayed reasonably crisp and firm even in the soup and the hand-made fish paste scored an A!

Stout and sturdy, makes for a sprightly start to the day!

Check it out before the crowds from Tmn Desa and Kuchai start spilling over!

Do I have vague memory, or is it you love fish head noodles?

Oh, for that bowl of fish head noodles! There is one in Ampang Village, Ulu Klang that a friend is raving about. Near to Mei Keng Fatt. I hope to drop by this weekend. As for Old Klang Road it is out of the way now.

Me too, I much prefer fish head noodles without milk, esp. if you up the ante on the Chinese wine! ;)

Joe, not quite the same as Woo Pin and I can't decide yet if it's as good as, or better than Woo Pin!

Nomad Gourmand, very hefty and very satisfying!

Allie, I've been on a rediscovery binge of fish head noodles, having kept away from it for years, so yes, your memory serves you right!

Worldwindows, Ulu Klang?? Really the other side of the town huh? Look forward to reading your post about it!

Sean, I get these intense cravings once in a while when nothing else but fishy noodles will do!

Happy Happy, thanks for dropping by! And try try by all means!

LFB, and the wine in the version here does not fail us non-milk advocates! ;-)

i wudda suggest soon lei which is just a few shops away from goon wah but it's just another weekend stampede. (why do crepes come to mind..haha!). go late, say around 2 pm and you'll be fine! :D

Food Paradise, yeah I'm averse to milk, even when you can't taste it in fish noodles! Milk that good meh?

Unka, the kinda stuff that differentiates good noodles from GREAT noodles! :-D

Selba, nothing like this in Indo? I'm sure there's a fishy soup version... can't be that foreign!

Ciki, quite hard to say... Woo Pin still reigns but I'm quite happy to do without the crowds. This one's better than many others I've tasted, that's for sure!

BBO, ooh, let me know if you find out WHERE in Cheras exactly. I think she mentioned something about Miharja? Or Midah? :-P

Foodbin, it's not a high-traffic area, esp on weekends. I pulled up right in front of the shop!

Nic, Soon Lei! Another one to note down, got it! Yeah 2PM sounds about right, though when I do that at Woo Pin, the workers are all so lethargic that I feel like I'm getting in the way of closing time!
