Bowl-me-over Breakfast in Bangkok

Bangkok's been a foolproof escape for the longest time - proximity's a dream, the city's a glorious mess, the food binges always magnificent, the alcohol cheap and flowing. It was timely that in the depth of KL ennui, a trip to the city that had previously fixed it all was planned and administered.

Except, this time, it didn't fix it all. The travel time took longer than anticipated, thanks to Air Asia's infamous delay, we found ourselves in the thick of Sukhumvit disorientated and disappointed, we didn't drink or eat anything mind-blowing and we engaged in an absolutely dreadful exercise of weeding out our respective skeletons in the closet.

But let us not discount Bangkok as a weekend getaway by dwelling on what didn't work.

One of the few things that did work this time around was this:

"Waitfor" breakfast noodles at Chatuchak: Devillishly dark herbal chicken noodle soup to signal the start of an acquistion spree.

Two chunks of well marinated, tender thigh chicken meat, swilling in an almost musical broth singing praises for the Saturday morning.

Check it. The location's somewhat challenging (the number on the top left corner of the signboard indicates 21, 273, 28/3) but it's on the main outer stretch, but if you look hard enough, it's there.

KL has got sheen, but Bangkok has got real soul! Would be great to live in a city that combines both elements :D

I don't think I will EVER find this stall in Chatuchak, lol! That place is a messy crowded maze!

Boo, pretty sure you can still snag them el cheapo Air Asia tix this year. Just as long as you don't flip out at delays!

Sean, Chatuchak takes a fair amount of grit, I need a long time to muster it up myself. The crowd, the heat, the maze!

Ciki, don't think I'll be heading to BKK for another year... but let's hit Thai here in KL soon! :-D

J, yes especially when you know you have five hours ahead of you of no-limits buying!

Pure Glutton, I did try to figure out the system this visit and gave up after finding myself back where I started with one wrong turn. Just go where your feet takes you, I say!

I've been to Chatuchak once and I absolutely hated it. Perhaps it was because I didn't find that yummy bowl of noodles. :-P I recently had a delicious bowl of chinese herbal chicken noodle soup when I least expected it, right here in the heart of Taman Desa. I was thrilled. :-)

I hate chatuchak too, & left Unka to go by himself!
But the only bowl of noodles I liked in BKK was that very one u had! Herbalish a bit yes, and absolutely tender chicken!

LL, where is this herbal chicken noodle soup you mention? I must know!! I live in Tmn Desa and I don't know this... it's preposterous!

TNG, you didn't do JJ?? You're kidding! That's like, one of the best things about BKK!!

Cariso, it didn't really fill me up but just nice to make sure I'd keep moving to buy buy buy! :-)
