Kung Fu Pan Mee, Taman Sri Sentosa

One thing I cannot get enough of in KL is Pan Mee. I've had some good ones and I've had some nasty ones but I wanted ULTIMATE pan mee so where do I turn to but my trusted trove of local food blogs? It was thanks to Masak-masak's post and directions that I managed to find Kung Fu Pan Mee, tucked away in the quiet, previously uncharted waters of Taman Sri Sentosa off Old Klang Road, near the NPE highway turnoff from OUG's direction.

I ordered large, dry, "torn" version (RM6) which arrived, generously topped with minced meat and crispy giant anchovies. What's great about this place is that you're free to help yourselves to the containers with generous lime wedges and the kick-ass chilli sauce.

Chilli sauce + Pan Mee = Happiness X infinity! Squeeze a few drops from your lime first into the sauce, then squeeze the rest into your pan mee. Mix....

...and behold, the golden, lardy goodness of a well-executed Pan Mee. The freshly hand-made noodles are thicker than usual and offer a LOT of bite so you actually find yourself working hard to get each mouthful down, not that I'm complaining.

Fat Tulip opted for the soup version for the same price, and he proclaimed it the best pan mee he's ever had. Word.

The menu, in the form of a 3R photo album, is limited to variations of pan mee but it also has some side dishes. We ordered the pandan chicken. Again, we had no qualms about proclaiming this one of the best pandan chicken we've had. I've always thought the whole pandan chicken proposition somewhat blah but this one is in a different league altogether - the marinade and spices have been totally massaged into the chicken meat and each mouthful offers a wonderful, seamless burst of flavours. At RM4.50 each (yes, that's RM9.00 for 2 measly pieces of chicken), it's an arm and a half but a must-try at least once.

The unassuming, blink-and-you'll-miss shopfront, located next to an old-school hairdressing salon drying a pile of freshly-laundred Good Morning towels outside.

I found myself wishing for the pan mee the next meal, and the one after that. Won't be long before I head back there for a fix!

Pan mee with so much ingredients...ooh, looking at the texture,it's definitely the 'torn' mee instead of the 'cut' ones...something they used to differentiate when ppl order pan mee (i am learning...hehe)

CK Lam, trust you to find your way to good food, wherever you are! :-)

Criz, oooh thanks for sharing that. I'll look it up, make it part of the Pan Mee chronicles!

J2kfm, the lime totally jazzes it up. Can't go wrong with lime reallly...

Little Inbox, hmm I'm not sure about it being too healthy. All that lard swimming around in that huge bowl of carbs?

Poppy Seed, at your command, doll, at your command.

Mellie, definitely must go back! Quite different from the standard Mid Valley offerings!

Christy, ooh mine is the "torn" without fail! The true beauty of pan mee, I believe, is the inconsistency of the noodle. Delicious!

Cariso, hahaha... good idea! I will note it down and explore soon! Let me know if any more pointers for me to check out on your behalf!

Hey Gill Gill,

Sorry have been totally slacking here, been so busy at work!

OK, directions! If you're on Old Klang Rd coming from Mid Valley, drive straight past OUG's turnoff. Keep driving until you reach the fork and proceed straight, under the bridge. You will see the turnoff to NPE on your right but keep left until you see the sign to turn into Taman Sri Sentosa.

Take the left turn and drive straight for about 5 minutes. You'll reach another fork, take left turn and you'll see Petronas station on your right. Keep going and take the next right turn, where you'll see blocks of flats. Take the next left turn, which will get you into the wet market square. The Kung Fu pan mee shop is one of the shops facing the wet market.

Hope that helps! Good luck!
