Lekor lovin' in Taman Desa

It's the weekend once again, and guess what?! It's time to take a break from trying and failing miserably to be good and abstain from the evils of grease! That can only mean one thing for tea... keropok lekor!

The weather has not been too kind to the makeshift food stalls that sprout up around the Taman Desa neighbourhood at all hours. The colourful brolly under which they efficiently operate can only endure so much of the erratic rainy season.

Thankfully, the industrious adik-adiks who run the lekor stall by the Shell station persevere, waiting for the glimmer of a break to continue diligently whipping up freshly fried goodies. The stall is situated on one side of the Shell station, across the road from Danau Business Centre, which houses the very serviceable Sri Kota supermarket, the lovely Paradiso and my favourite 100 Yen outlet.

For perspective...

RM2 gets you approximately 10 pieces in a brown paper bag - a mix of the crispy thin and chewy fat ones.

Hello, Momma!

Extra of the watery sweetish chilli sauce is a non-negotiable!

Weekends aside, I am letting myself go waayyyy too often. Must. Get. Back. To. Healthy. Such a long way back, pffffbttt!

i LOVE keropok lekor. i make my annual pilgrimage to kemaman just for lekor and nasi dagang at hai peng :) glad to hear that there are lekor stalls that don't require u to travel to another state ;)

so far the lekor that i've tasted in KL are way too flour-y, just not enough fish...

NON-negotiable? aiya ... as if those chilli sauce cost a lot pulak .. :)

i like the thinner version, esp those so thin you can even bite onto them. yummy snacks, evergreen!

I hardly eat these in KL. Only when friends go to the east coast, then I'd get them to buy 1kg worth of lekor for me! =D

Lekor, I don't really know to enjoy it. Can't stand of the fishy smell keropok fried in a wok of oxidized oil, hehe...

Yin, I think Kemaman's a league above this lil' shack in sleepy Taman Desa... I definitely think an annual lekor pilgrimage is very necessary!

J2Kfm, I actually prefer the thin crunchy ones too! But when feeling a bit hungry, the fat chewy ones fill me up!

Agnes Cheong, thanks for the link! Will visit you right away! :-)

Bangsar Babe, 1kg of lekor should last ages! Oh I forget, your appetite's bottomless, so maybe a week tops? :-D

Little Inbox, when you put it like that, I wonder how I can possibly enjoy it too! But seriously, can't resist when the pungent fishy aroma hits!

Worldwindows, ooh I hear Tmn Melawati's a trove of wonderful food finds... I must put my automobile to good use and make a visit some day!

BSG, haha! Jaz + Lekor = Partytime!

The Nomad Gourmand, know of any extray-fishy lekor stalls I should hit in KL?

I don't like the chewy fat ones, like eating inner tubes. The crispy ones however I will kill for. However, I only have them without the chilli sauce that they always offer. Guess I like my fish products fishy. Eh, why this lekor stall in particular? I'd think that there'd be little difference from stall to stall since the SOP is so simple, slice and fry then serve. I always get my lekor fix at Pasar Seni.

Speaking of letting oneself go too often, I'm so guilty of that. An extra helping of this and that does not help lah. :P

Let's work on... working out?

you have a therapeutic way of abstaining from grease. hehe...and i think it's cool. instead of not eating any at all, we eat less. ;D

Mimid3vils, yes agreed! No trip to pasar malam complete without a generous bungkusan lekor!

Gourmand Extraordinaire, haha, standard SOP indeed! Dunk and serve! Actually nothing much stands out about the lekor at this stall, but it's in the neighbourhood, great for quick lekor fix, within walking distance from my apartment where I am holed up during the weekends! I remember Pasar Seni's, the one outside the LRT station right?

LFB, such hard work, but so so necessary in order to abstain the abstinence!

BBO, ooh lekor would be the perfect mid afternoon office snack! Unfortunately none to be seen in the vicinity of my workplace!

Nomad Gourmand, Kemaman coffee chain? There's a Kemaman coffee chain?? Googling it now!

Yin, that's one helluva food crawl! And the lekors in your pics definitely put the city versions to shame. Hey how come you stopped writing in that blog? I'm having fun trawling thru the archives :-)

Nic, eat less? Who said anything about eating less?! I think the strategy now has changed to: continue eating more, but ummm... work out (gulp) more?

550ml jar of faith >> phew, i'm glad i didn't break a flogger's rule or something by posting up my link in the comments section. even gladder you're actually reading my past posts :D

I stopped for a couple of reasons, namely because xanga ran out of photo space and i was too lazy to link my pix to photobucket. plus FB came along so i decided to just post pix on FB and caption them and add a really really long album description so that it would turn out almost like a blog entry ;) i like the features on FB better anyways.

having said that, i've started blogging again, just to record my journey towards the half marathon in june...that's why it's more of a running blog then food. but i might throw in some foodie stuff too lah ;)

am planning another trip to kemaman/kijal soon so you just might see more lekor piccies.

oh btw, i just remembered i had pretty good lekor in kampung kerinchi. i don't quite know how to explain..it's somewhere near the 7-11. but she's only open in the afternoons so i need to wait for weekends to get my lekor fix. and the nasi goreng kampung there is one of the best i've ever had too!

thanks again for reading my blog archives...feel free to komen-komen!
