Rather than bore you with an insipid sob story about how and why the hiatus, let me get right into sharing something of actual value :-)
Dae Jang Gum, Taman Danau Desa. Yup, another token Korean mom-&-pop in the hood. Nothing extraordinary as far as the eye can see...
...its panchan spread is fairly generous...
...its Bibimbap gets a nonchalant nod...
...and even the somewhat boring Haemul Pajeon (seafood pancake) gets a tick, charred scallion bits and all.
But what gets us really excited about Dae Jang Gum is this little beauty here, amidst the dodge-and-dodgier pub scene of Taman Desa.
They run a wicked promotion of the very guzzle-friendly Hite beer, from RM7 for a 330ml bottle to the very delightful RM25 1600ml pitcher. A godsend, especially when the thirst hits and you can't really be arsed to drive out or patronise any of the questionable watering holes mushrooming all over Taman Desa.
The use of inappropriate, albeit frosty mugs overlooked. Cool & Fresh, says the label. It's no lie! Check it!

i wouldn't mind taking a tour of taman desa's questionable watering holes sometime! it's still mostly uncharted territory for me, even though it's such a short drive away from bangsar. so close, yet so far is the cliche that springs to mind :D
p.s. speaking for myself, your posts have been missed =)
Questionable? Perhaps, especially with that last picture, evidence of a true mismatch. But. Amusement, also. And maybe that is why we have given our heart to Taman Desa in the end... or at least the keys to our homes.
(Ok, I'm starting to make questionable metaphors myself, so better stop...)
P.S. Ditto. Your posts have been very missed. :)
i like wicked promos! gimme gimme wicked anytime! LOL
Sean, I am happy for the watering holes to stay uncharted for some time yet! Seriously... think opaque dark windows, feng-thau music, overpriced watered down beer and strange characters... you don't want to go there! I really hope I can keep this blogging thing up. Inertia is such a bitch!
Kenny, the united layers and colours of Taman Desa! :-D It's still a very very awesome neighbourhood. Made even more awesome by our collective presence, haha!
Ciki, yeah they are the best! Just thinking about it's got me all thirsty again! Come on!
Hey Happy 2011!
Been busy busy bee eh?
Hope to see you soon ;p Sage perhaps?
it's becoming quite the little korea there isn't it?
TNG, Happy New Year Becky!! :-) Yes! Time to get our feasting hats on!
Qwazymonkey, at last count, at least 3 Korean joints in the same block. Little Korea is better than being Little feng-thau central!
I think I've seen this place when I drove past by many times. Never try it before. Good info!
Hite beer is indeed awesome after trying it out myself. Amazingly in the land of beer this is cheaper than in Australia!
After Samsung, I have not stepped into a Korean restaurant. I must try this one out
Wilson, yeah the shop itself doesn't really stand out very much. And if I hadn't been keeping my eye out for the single promo poster, I probably would've missed it entirely too!
Joe, I started drinking Hite beer in Korean joints in NZ, because they were so cheap! 3 cans for NZD10, I remember!
Brother B, how can you go for such a long spell without Korean? Do you mean you don't get panchan withdrawal? :-O
Good girl. You got your priorities right!
Ah I shall try this out soon! Thanks Min! :D
LL, I am glad you approve! Evidently, my NY resolution to drink less isn't going to materialise anytime soon!
Joyce, you are most welcome! :-) Gotta make the best of the sunnier sides of the neighbourhood!
